About UGC-DAE CSR

UGC – DAE Consortium for Scientific Research (CSR), Mumbai Centre and the Department of Physics, Maharaja Institute of Technology Mysore (MIT Mysore) are organizing a two-day workshop on Collaborative Research Scheme (CRS) funding opportunities & Advanced Probes for Structure and Physical Property Correlation in Materials Science using highly sophisticated research facilities that are available at different centres of the CSR and also at various centres of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), which are accessible through CSR, such as the Dhruva Reactor at BARC, Mumbai, INDUS Synchrotron at RRCAT, Indore, and VECC, Kolkata.

About the Department of Physics

The Department of Physics, established in 2007, provides the basic foundation course, Engineering Physics, a fundamental for any Engineering Stream. The Department relishes the pleasure of being one of the leading research departments in the institution. It has been duly recognised as a Research Centre by VTU Belagavi and the University of Mysore for conducting Ph.D. program. An Advanced Research Centre was established in the year 2011 and upgraded further with the sponsored research grant and support of DAE-BRNS, Mumbai, UGC-DAE-CSR, Indore, SERB-DST, New Delhi and MRF-MIT, Mysore. The research centre is equipped with state-of-the-art research equipment for the growth of oxide materials both in bulk and nanoparticles. The establishment of a low-temperature lab for electrical and magnetic measurements is in progress. The department also has a well-established collaboration with national and international advanced research labs for characterisation

About UGC–DAE–CSR Awareness Workshop

The workshop aims to create awareness among faculty members, research scholars, and young researchers about the sophisticated experimental facilities available through the UGC-DAE CSR centres and various DAE laboratories. Experts from UGC-DAE-CSR will introduce participants to advanced characterisation techniques and national research facilities, including neutron scattering at the National Facility for Neutron Beam Research (NFNBR), Dhruva Reactor, BARC Mumbai; synchrotron radiation experiments at the INDUS Synchrotron, RRCAT Indore; ion beam facilities at VECC Kolkata; and research facilities available at the Kalpakkam Node, IGCAR.

The workshop will emphasise the utilisation of neutron scattering facilities at the NFNBR, Dhruva Reactor, BARC, for condensed matter studies under different sample environments such as low temperature and high magnetic fields. Complementary studies such as AC susceptibility, magneto-resistance and magnetisation studies using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), broadband dielectric spectroscopy and other techniques will be covered. Overview of facilities at Indore and Kolkata centres of CSR, including the utilisation of INDUS synchrotron radiation at RRCAT, Indore and accelerated ions from VECC Kolkata, and at the Kalpakkam Node at IGCAR will also be presented.

Faculty members and research scholars from universities and colleges who are interested in participating in the workshop may apply by providing the following details in Google form link, (i) Name, (ii) Designation and age, (iii) Affiliation, (iv) Address for correspondence with email address, (v) Current area of research, (vi) List of related publications (vii) Recommendation from supervisor in case of student, (viii) Information on whether the applicant has attended any of the UGC-DAE CSR workshops held earlier, (ix) accommodation and financial assistance if required, for travel to attend the workshop. Participants are expected to attend all sessions of the workshop. Local hospitality will be provided. Financial assistance for travel by govt. transport as per CSR rules, but limited to 3AC for students and 2AC for faculty, will be provided on specific request.

About ICMSAA–2026
